Competitions & Events
As a fast-paced and technical sport, Savate comes alive in competitions and tournaments. Fighters take to the ring to show their skill at a club-level, in a national or international arena. Use the links on the left to see how the London club performs in competitions at home and abroad, along with details of other events and seminars. Assaut Competition basics The London Savate club mainly enters Assaut (controlled contact) tournaments, where all force must be excluded from attacks, leaving a technical, skillful game to be played between two opponents. Fighters are separated by weight category and by gender.
A pair of competing fighters is watched by ringside judges and each one is awarded points in two columns: for number of touches scored and for technical prowess. The majority or unanimity of the judges after three rounds provides the result. Warnings, resulting in deduction of points, can be proposed by the referee for infringement of the rules or unsporting behaviour. View the links above and on the left for tournament reports and previews.

"French Boxing is a deep science that requires a lot of composure, calculation, agility and strength. It is the nicest way to develop human strength, a fight with no other weapons than natural weapons where you cannot be taken by surprise." |
