Events and Seminars

We are fortunate that regular Savate training is reinforced on quite a regular basis by seminars, gradings and training events in Britain and around the world.

Gradings and Training Days. These are a regular feature of the Savate calendar. A full day's training is usually accompanied by expositions of the related disciplines (Canne de Combat and Savate Defence) and grading opportunities for several technical levels are also offered. The meetings also afford the chance to train and spar with members of other clubs and under other instructors.

UK Seminars. Top Savate trainers and current World or French Champions are often invited to the UK to give seminars and to share their knowledge. It is very instructive to attend these, especially when the remarkable Gilles Le Diugou is the trainer.

International Seminars. The majority of such events are held in France (see the 'Stages' page of the FIS site) but are also available in many other places. For instance, see this report on the Solvenian summer camp 2006. Stages can take many forms, from technical instruction and preparation for competition to arbitration and training for instructors.

"French Boxing is a deep science that requires a lot of composure, calculation, agility and strength. It is the nicest way to develop human strength, a fight with no other weapons than natural weapons where you cannot be taken by surprise."

Théophile GAUTIER
