Please arrive in time to change and get ready before we begin. 15 July 2007 - League event III completed. 29 April 2007 Grading Results - Congratulations to London students who passed gradings in Cambridge. For Red glove: Tom (87%) and Lizzy (94%) and for White Glove: Dom (90%). March 2007 League event - the results are in from Cambridge. See the competitions area for details. 27 March 2007 - Tuesday night session change. From the end of March there will be no further training in Camden Town. In late April a Tuesday night session will start in Waterloo (tbc). 25 March 2007 - League event I, Cambridge. Be sure to get your entries in for the first British competition of the year. See the competitions area for details. 03 March 2007 - grading day: a full day of training and grading was hosted by Oxford Savate club. See www.oxfordsavate.co.uk/grading and www.savate.org for grading results. 12 Feb 2007 - classes update. Owing to refurbishment works at Soho Gym Waterloo, for the next nine weeks our Thursday class will be put back by 15 minutes. The amended start time is 7:45pm, with the extended training and sparring starting at 8:45pm. James has been nominated for an award. Please vote for him here: Jan 2007, new money-saving card launched . You can now buy a 5-session card that can be used at any London Savate class, with no time limit, for just £30. Savate Champions in London. Five members of the London Savate club were winners of national titles at the end of 2006. Lizzy Hawkins - British Champion, F76kg+ Congratulations to everyone who entered and for all the hard work in training that was done across the year. Great Britain Savate Assaut League Results. The 2006 League came to its climax on 10th December in Cambridge, with all the national titles decided. See the competition page for details of the last event and the final League standings for all fighters. Grading results. A training and grading day was held in Cambridge on 26th Nov. Three London Savate members successfully passed new grades: Lizzy took green glove with an impressive 99%, Mike and Dom passed Red Glove, achieving 88% and 96%, respectively. James passed White Glove with 96%. These are excellent pass marks - well done to everybody. End of year dates. The last class of 2006 will be Tuesday 12th Dec in Camden Town and Thursday 14th Dec in Waterloo. We will begin again on Tuesday 9th and Thursday 11th January, respectively. Have a good break. Beginners' courses and induction nights have been set for the New Year (see the classes page) - bring a friend along too. Induction evenings now take place in Camden Town on the first Tuesday of every month. These sessions are great for those with no experience to come along or for current students to introduce a friend and show them what they can do. Great Britain Savate Assaut League, meeting three - 24th September. Guildford hosted the third GBSF tournament of 2006. See the competitions page for the results and our newly crowned champions. Championnat du Monde Assaut The results from Paris are now in. All fighters returned safely, and the team is now wiser, stronger and adorned with more medals. Read the results on the competitions page. No class on Thursday 14th September. From 14-17th September the best Assaut fighters in the World will convene in Paris for the Championnat du Monde Assaut. Three members of the London club will be fighting for the British team. Consequently the class on Thursday 14th September will be suspended. Apologies for this disruption, but come along the following week to hear stories from the event. Report from Slovenia. From 30th July to 5th August 2006, London instructor James Southwood was in Slovenia for the Adriatic Savate Summer School. Read his report on the training. Summer break. In a short break from training there will be no London Savate classes in the first week of August (Tue 1st and Thu 3rd). Please use the time to rest and recuperate; training will begin afresh the following week. Great Britain Savate Assaut League - event two, 25th June. Results. See the updated competitions page to find out how the London team fared in Cambridge in the second competition of the year. After an impressive day of fights all entrants deserve praise for their hard work in training and commendable displays in the ring. Fighters from the London Savate club and from the Oxford Savate club performed showcase fights at the Cobra Gym Interclub event on Sunday 28th May. This day of kickboxing entertainment was held at the Queen Mothers Sports Centre, Vauxhall Bridge Road London SW1V 1EL. See www.cobragym.co.uk London Savate instructor James Southwood will be at this year's Bristol Vegan Fayre, run by Yaoh, on Sunday 10th June. In the Health and Fitness Zone James will give some talks on Savate, on preparing for competition on a raw food diet as well as a live demonstration. See the Yaoh website for full details of the fayre. New timetable from June. Our weekly training schedule will be changing from the week starting 29/05/06. We also have a new venue in Waterloo on Thursdays. See the classes page for more details. This revised timetable will give us greater opportunity to train together and develop as fighters and as a club. Great Britain Savate Assaut League - event 2 of 4. On Sunday 25th June the Cambridge Academy of Martial Arts will be hosting the second event of 2006 in a series that will determine British Assaut Savate Champions. For more information, see the competitions page or email. Grading successes. Two London students successfully progressed to higher grades at the Savate open day held in Cambridge on 23 April 2006. Congratulations to Mike for a good performance to attain his Green Glove and to Sophie for an impressive 96% achieved on her way to Red Glove. Bank Holiday closures. Owing to the public holidays on Friday 14th April, Monday 17th April, Monday 1st May and Monday 29th May there will be no classes on those nights. Great Britain Savate Assaut League - results from first meeting, 19th March, Cambridge. London fighters took a haul of gold medals at the inaugural GB Savate League meeting. See the new competitions page for more detail. New cost-saving training plans from March. London Savate classes can now be paid for by monthly payments to save you money on regular training. Seminar with Gilles Le Duigou. 18th Feb, Cambridge. Seven London Savateurs attended the five hour seminar with France's top instructor and former world Champion. We were all, I dare say, improved by the deep yet clear teaching that Gilles offered. If you missed him this time, be sure to catch Gilles the next time he is in the UK. Sunday 22nd Jan - Savate was featured in The Sunday Review's '50 Ways to get Fit - Exercise Essentials for 2006', complete with a picture of two London Savateuses training. This complements the Time Out feature that ran earlier in the month showcasing www.lunchbreak-kickboxing.com If anyone is interested in getting involved in our next round of publicity, via press releases, photoshoots, or demonstrations please email James. A new sparring class has been added to our schedule on Friday nights (starts 27th Jan) in Camden Town, 7-8pm. If you would like to push yourself, try out new moves and improve your sparring this is the night for you. You must have valid GBSF licence and be comfortable at this level (ask if you're unsure). Beginners' training now also takes place on Monday nights in Holborn, 8:00-9:30pm in addition to the Thursday night class. A Christmas Interclub Assaut competition was held in Guildford on Sunday 11 December. Thanks to Rossy for organising and for Richard and the other officials and fighters for a fun, informal set of bouts. Travel restrictions caused by the Buncefield oil explosions unfortunately kept the Cambridge team at home. London fighters Sophie and James fought three bouts each, Dom, resting an injury, officiated in place of fighting. Sophie: 1 win, 2 losses A GBSF Savate Assaut League is set to be launched in 2006. Email to be kept updated. A Savate demonstration was held at the Essex Vegan Festival (www.essexveganfestival.org.uk) on Friday 2nd December. Those participating were Mike, Rachel and James. A video clip can be found here Seasonal closure. Our last class of the year will be on Thursday 15th December 2005. The classes will be suspended until the first class of New Year which will be held on Tuesday 10th January 2006. Season's greetings! A Savate grading day was held in Cambridge on 27th November. Well done Mike, Dom and Leona who passed their Blue Glove gradings. Congratulations to Leona and Mike for a confident completion of the first grade and to Dom for his score of 99% and for successfully grading for green glove later the same day. Lunchbreak Kickboxing website launched. See the new site here: www.lunchbreak-kickboxing.com Sparring skills class added. Starting Thursday 3rd November there will be a sparring skills class held from 9:00-9:30pm following the beginners' training session in Holborn LA Fitness. This will be free to attend for anyone who comes to the main class, and just £5 for anyone wishing to attend the sparring session alone (you are welcome to come early and catch the end of the main class to warm up if you wish). This will be an assaut - controlled contact - sparring session for all those who have trained for at least one month and have their own mouthguards. London Savate instructor James performed a demonstration of Savate at the 2005 Bristol Vegan Fayre on Saturday 29th October. the demonstration was a great success, as was the Fayre itself. There is a video clip here. Personal Savate training is now available at Cobra Gym, near London Victoria. The European Assaut Championships took place in Clichy, Paris, 30th Sep - 01 Oct. Congratulations to everyone on the team for their fights, and thanks to all the officials and seconds for their work and support. London representatives Dom and James (and Rachel) made it through all their fights. Dom fought a tough set of opponents and showed great tenacity in his approach to the Frenchman (the eventual champion) and learnt much despite losing. James similarly did not win against his French opponent but managed a split decision in losing to the Belgian fighter. Again, much experience was gained. Rachel fought very well in testing conditions and managed third place overall. Well done to everyone involved. Next year the World Championships are provisionally set to be hosted in Lille. I'm sure everyone will be training with this in mind. On Sunday 12th June London fighters competed against Guildford and Cambridge in a friendly interclub Assaut Competition, held in Cambridge. After an entertaining, often classy, often highly charged day of sparring, the results were as follows:
